My home server closet is now a sauna

Posted thermal photos from my FLIR. 45°C ambient, peaks at 67°C on the top switch. Running three Dell R720s, a MikroTik CRS, and an APC SUA3000. All on Windows Server 2022, the thermal reporting is more accurate than what I got from lm-sensors on Debian. Cable management is... present. I know, I know. The closet was never meant to be a datacenter. It was a linen closet. Now it is a linen closet that also contains my Active Directory. The R720s are idling most of the time. I could spin them down but I run some legacy IIS stuff that my partner needs for work. To be fair, Windows Server's power management has improved a lot since 2016. Anyone else living with this? I am considering a mini-split but the HOA will notice. In my experience, HOAs notice everything.

Hej wendy, 45C is no problem for malý server, I run closet on 52C in summer. No worry.

But cable, hej, into config you need more air. On server I put fan from old PC, cost nothing. No big deal.

No, you think about winter? I use heat for room, save on heating. Into config put vent, warm air go to living room. Hej, free heat.

Your switch 67C is maybe too much. Malý fan help.

Your power bill is the real story here. Three R720s, probably pulling 400W idle. At current rates that's what, $60/month before cooling? /24 will cost you a kidney, but so will running a closet datacenter in 2026.

Back in 2019 I ran similar setup. Sold the hardware, bought IPv4 instead. Prices only go up. That /24 appreciated more than any server ever would.
