My 'dedicated' IP was shared with a spammer

I made VPS last month at new provider, got "dedicated" IP. Before I even install anything, IP was on blacklist. Email score terrible. Cannot send mail at all bro

I check IP reputation after paying, not before. My mistake. But provider says "dedicated IP" and it was used by spammer before me. Now they want $5 for clean IP. Thank you very much for any advice

How do I check before paying next time

Hi Joko — sorry to hear this. That's frustrating, and you're right to be annoyed.

A few quick checks before you pay anywhere:

  • Search the IP on multirbl.valli.org
  • Check sender score at senderscore.org
  • Look up IP on abuseipdb.com

If you're evaluating Contabo, I'm happy to check any IP we assign before you complete payment. Just DM me the plan you're considering.

Specs on our clean IP policy:

  • All IPs warmed in pool for 90 days minimum
  • Immediate swap if score below 85
  • No charge for first replacement

I ran the IP from your screenshot through six tools. It's on fourteen lists, Joko. Fourteen. That IP was burning for months before you touched it. Your provider absolutely knew, or they're incompetent. Either way, mark my words: they'll keep cycling dirty IPs to new customers who don't know better.

Twenty years in this business, and the race to the bottom still surprises me. This ends with everyone using big cloud mail because small hosting killed its own reputation.

Thread derailed into provider-bashing. Locked. Take it to DMs.

Joko: dispute the charge, file a ticket, move on.
