Moving 50 domains without losing a day of DNS

Bro so I had to move 50 domains from one registrar to another wey, old one jacked prices 40% and I was not gonna pay that. Biggest fear was DNS going down even for hours because some of these are client sites and they do NOT forgive downtime.

My playbook:
- export zone files 2 weeks before
- set TTLs to 300 on everything 1 week before
- create duplicate zones at new registrar but dont point NS yet
- transfer domains in batches of 10
- update NS at old registrar LAST so cutover is instant
- monitor with pingplot from 3 locations

Took 3 days total but zero DNS downtime. What did I miss?

Thanks for sharing this, pablo! Really solid foundation. A couple things I'd suggest checking via DM if you'd like — happy to walk through our own migration tooling at Contabo.

One edge case: some TLDs lock NS changes for 24-48 hours post-transfer. Your "update at old registrar last" strategy is smart, but verify that lock window with your specific TLDs.

Which registrar was the old one, the one that jacked prices?

I had a registrar pull that same stunt last year

Which TLDs were the ones with the NS lock

$3/year. 128MB RAM. Pure happiness.
