Mini-guide getting arch on a VPS that only offers Ubuntu so I woke up at 6am had oatmeal with blueberries my cat Mr whiskers was sitting on the keyboard purring and it was raining outside the window was foggy and I thought you know what I hate Ubuntu systemd times I want arch on my Contabo VPS but they only have Ubuntu templates so here is what I did I went to the control panel and there is this hidden ISO mount feature nobody talks about I found it by accident when I was looking for the reboot button because Mr whiskers stepped on it and the server went down anyway you mount the arch ISO then you VNC in and do the install manually it takes forever but it works and the best part is Contabo doesnt even notice because the disk image looks the same to their automation I have been running this for six months now zero issues except one time I forgot to set up sshd and had to VNC in again and Mr whiskers threw up on the mouse pad that day it was tuesday I think or wednesday doesnt matter the point is custom ISO method works and you can have arch anywhere even Hostinger which is the worst panel I have ever seen but thats another story

Anyway I got gentoo stage3 working on KnownHost at 3am last tuesday
Idk why I do this
Emerge-webrsync over vnc for 4 hours because their network stack is weird

FEATURES="-sandbox -usersandbox" MAKEOPTS="-j1"

Took 6 hours to compile openssl

Works now though. Binhost when

builds at 3AM, sleeps at noon

Dear Sir/Madam,

Kindly note that this method is working on Hetzner also. I have tested the same. The custom ISO feature is available only in the higher tier plans, cheap only if you upgrade itself. The community benefit is there, no doubt.

I am requesting you to kindly share the specific kernel modules required for proper networking. It will be helpful to others.

Regards,
Priya
