Migrated from my setup to ValueVPS last Tuesday. Week one reality check.

Hey folks

Migrated from my setup to ValueVPS last tuesday. Super stoked about the deal — 4 vCPU / 8 GB / 200 GB SSD for $7/mo. My setup was choking my MariaDB during cron jobs so I figured double the RAM would fix it.

Week one reality check though. htop says 8 GB total but free -m shows ~6.2 GB available on boot. No zfs, no hugepages. Opened a ticket, they said "shared memory overhead from host kernel." uh, that's a 20% haircut before I even install anything?

Also the 4 vCPU? Cat /proc/cpuinfo shows 2 cores 4 threads. Hyperthreading!= vCPU in my book but maybe I'm old school.

Anyone else seeing this? Gonna run stress-ng tonight and see if they throttle.

Maybe that's just how budget hosts do it now. You know I migrated from my setup too last month and maybe my numbers look the same. You know I never checked. Maybe I should run free -m. You know this is kinda sketchy...

I make a server up with ValueVPS in March. Same plan, same numbers. I think is normal for this price? But I not am expert.

I run stress test and after 15 minutes CPU go down to 0.8 GHz. Very slow. I open ticket, they say "fair use policy." Regards.
