Major registrar acquired—should I flee before prices jump?

Everyone panic-transferring domains this week is burning reputation for no reason.

For what it's worth, I have been through three registrar acquisitions. The price shock never hits on day one. There is an 18-month lag while contracts renew, ICANN fees get renegotiated, and the new parent "optimizes" support tiers. The real damage is support quality collapsing in month 6, not pricing in month 2.

SPF/DKIM/DMARC records survive transfers fine. What kills you is when the new registrar silently changes their nameserver anycast routing and your mail starts landing in spam folders because of latency to blocklist sensors. I documented this in 2019.

My actual advice: lock your current renewal rate for max years if still possible. Transfer out only if you have evidence of infrastructure degradation, not because of press releases.

I moved all domains to OVHcloud before close this time, very smooth transfer, took 3 days

For what its worth I dont trust any lock rate, they changed terms on me once already, "we reserve right to modify" in very small print xd

This aligns with what I observed during the Hetzner transition in 2024. I tracked:

• Average ticket response: 4 hours → 72 hours
• Live chat availability: 24/7 → business hours only
• API uptime: 99.97% → 99.2%
