Looking for mechanical switch that feels like stepping on fresh snow

Hello my friends! I am searching for the switch perfect, you know? That feeling when you step in the snow first time in the morning, that crunch soft but also you feel the support under your foot. Is very good.

I make a test with many switches already: Cherry MX Brown (too scratchy, not it), Gateron Yellow (smooth but no tactility), some custom Holy Pandas from a guy in Discord (close! But too heavy, like stepping in old snow with ice under).

Maybe exists a switch with the spring light but the bump in middle exactly like snow compression? I am ready to buy and test! Someone knows? Obrigado!

I think I understand what you want. I have thought about this many times.

I make a test with Kailh Box White and is very clicky not soft. No good for snow. But I find this very nice switch from small factory in Finland. I send you sample. No problem. You try and tell me is very good or not.

I have run-on sentence but is because I am excited about this topic. Snow feeling is important for keyboard yes!

Virtualization tax applies to keyboards too: every layer between your finger and the PCB adds latency and mush. For true snow-step tactility you want minimal housing interference, direct stem-to-leaf contact.

OpenVZ of switches: rubber domes. Shared kernel, noisy neighbors, no isolation. Avoid.

Consider Kailh Low Profile with custom 35g spring. Or better yet, lube a T1 and swap to progressive spring. The "compression" you want is pre-travel collapse, not post-bump friction.

Peer better. AS-Finland has the route. I have data from three Finnish vendors, all sub-2mm actuation variance. The snow metaphor breaks down above 60g—packs too dense.

Seriously:

- 35g springs: too light, no return
- 45g with long pole: better
- Lube Krytox 205g0 on stem, 105 on spring

I have a bag of vintage Alps from a hospital liquidation. Not snow. More like stepping on a disk tray that still works. Rare but unrelated.

RAID is not backup. Neither is your switch collection.

23.08.2026 update: the samples arrived. Bloody hell, they included a photo of actual snow with ruler for scale. 12cm, -4°C, proper powder. Switch is 45g actuation, 1.2mm pre-travel, progressive spring with silicone dampener on stem.

The compression curve matches snow density at 0.15 g/cm³, which is fresh powder, not packed. For comparison, Cherry Brown is 0.34 g/cm³ equivalent—crusty old snow, the kind that wakes you at 04:00 when neighbour starts car.

Metric units only in this house. 35g is 0.343N. Learn it.
