So I got this ampere box from GreenCloudVPS and there's no IPMI. At all. Just a serial header and some mystery gpio.
Anyway, I was gonna return it but then it was 3am and I had coffee and idk why I do this
Redfish endpoint exists but it's vendor-locked to their dashboard. No SOL, no media redirect, no power cycle without opening a ticket.
Has anyone actually solved this for arm servers or do we just suffer
I looked at this last year (for a CloudCone box — https://cloudcone.com. Don't ask). Redfish on ARM is theoretically standardized. In practice it's a disaster of partial implementations and vendor extensions.
The BMC on these things (like this) often speaks some vendor protocol over I2c that nobody documents. You can sometimes sniff it with a logic analyzer if you're feeling particularly self-destructive.
Have you checked if the gpio header exposes power/reset lines directly? Some Ampere reference boards do. The schematic might be buried in a 400-page PDF somewhere.

I've got a HostHatch Altra incoming next week — 80 cores, 128GB, no BMC to speak of. Going to port this exact setup. Will document pinout and post back.
