Hosts with student discounts that verify nothing
Back in 2009, I got my first VPS with a .edu email forwarded from a community college mailing list. No verification, no enrollment check, just «@something.edu» and 50% off for life. They don't make them like that anymore.
I've got a nephew starting to self-host. Wants the KnownHost student tier — 4GB RAM, 2 vCPU for $3/month versus their $7 regular. But he's not actually enrolled anywhere. Tried the usual .edu forwarding tricks, most hosts caught them.
Anyone found hosts where «student» verification is still just domain-check level? Or better, hosts that accept alternative «student» proofs? Back in 2009, a scanned library card worked more often than you'd think. Warm memories of simpler times.
