Looking for host that allows crypto node

Fun little project, just educational. I want to run a full Bitcoin node on a cheap VPS to learn how the p2p network actually works. No mining, no pool, just validation and relay. I have done this on my home lab but my ISP does not allow inbound 8333 and the wife is already mad about the rack noise.

I found a Contabo 2GB plan for €4/month that looks perfect. Before I snap it up, has anyone actually asked them about nodes? Their TOS mentions "cryptocurrency activities" vaguely and I do not want to wake up to a suspension email.

# what I want to run
bitcoind -prune=550 -listen=1

Just validation. No wallets.

works on my bench ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The wife says my 15A circuit is full so I feel you on the home lab limits

Contabo is tricky. I ran a Monero node there for about six months. No issues until I mentioned it in a support ticket for something else. Automated suspension within four hours. No human review. Had to migrate to a OVHcloud NAT VPS which explicitly allows nodes in their AUP.

Measure twice, back up once.

HAD TO GRAB THIS

OVHcloud had a €4/mo flash deal last Black Friday for 1GB NAT ARE YOU KIDDING. I tracked it on my price sheet, historically $6/mo. They explicitly allow nodes in the TOS, section 4.2. I have two running now, one Bitcoin one Monero, no suspensions in eight months.

Contabo will ban you for breathing wrong. Their automation is brutal.

world record: 4min Arch install

What could go wrong: everything

Contabo scans for port 8333. They have automation that flags ANY cryptocurrency traffic! Their abuse system is trigger-happy and their human review queue is two weeks deep. I have seen this pattern before.

  • fail2ban on your node
  • Firewall everything except 8333

But honestly? The bigger risk is their upstream provider terminating THEM for your traffic. Happened to a friend at RackNerd.

Use a host that actually allows it. 👀

airgapped, encrypted, faraday'd, still worried

It is not mining. It is network infrastructure.

I run a small educational node on Windows Server 2022 at HostHatch. Mentioned it in pre-sales chat. They said "as long as no mining" and put it in my account notes. Human review if flagged, not automated. Might be worth asking @tomchan Contabo directly before you buy.

Have you tried restarting it?

Guys what are the margins on reselling node-friendly hosting

I have a small WHMCS setup and their is demand for "blockchain ready" VPS. Any leads on bulk pricing from OVHcloud or similar? I recieved a quote from GreenCloudVPS but it was per-TB bandwidth which kills the model.

your margin is my opportunity

Four hours with no human review? That seems extreme even for Contabo

Can you share where in the OVHcloud TOS that actually is?

Which kernel were you running on the OVHcloud NAT VPS
