This thread is why I just pay Gandi their €16 forever and stop thinking about it. Yes it is more. Yes I know. But my time has value and this spreadsheet energy is not it.

NUT checking in. I have four servers at Vultr Bangkok, never use them for domain. But I check now for thread: .com transfer $10.99, renewal $14.99. Not the cheapest. Not the worst. Middle.
I stay at Namecheap for domain. $9.58 renewal with coupon always. Old price but works.
Waqaszhang in Osaka. I use Cloudflare Registrar for my personal domains. $9.15 flat. No transfer discount, no games, just $9.15. At-cost pricing they say. I believe them because it never changes.

CS student in Ottawa. I paid Namecheap renewal March 2026. $10.28 CAD with their forever coupon. Works out to ~$7.50 USD? No wait, $10.28 CAD is about $7.50 USD but they bill in USD so maybe I misremember. Let me check statement.
Actually I think the coupon brings it to $9.58 USD and my bank charged conversion. I will verify tonight and post.
I am in Lima. I use Porkbun for .com. Transfer $9.73. Renewal $9.73. No change for 3 years now. Very small company but honest. Not famous but I like.
Before I use GoDaddy. $12 first year. $22 renewal. I feel stupid. Now I check everything.

The pattern I see: companies that sell only domains or are registrar-first, they are honest. Companies that use domain as loss leader for VPS/hosting, they bait and switch. Contabo sells VPS. Hostinger sells hosting. Time4VPS sells VPS. The domain is just hook.
KnownHost, Cloudflare, Porkbun, Namecheap... domain is real business for them.
Hostspau in New York. I can confirm Porkbun. I have 8 domains there, all .com, all renew $9.73 since 2022. They had one price increase announcement in 2023 but then they absorb it? I do not know how. Still $9.73.
I also have one domain at Google Domains before they sell to Squarespace. Squarespace want $20 now. I transfer that one to Porkbun too.
Creek27 here. I have data for Dynadot. Transfer $9.50 with coupon. Renewal $10.99. Year 3 $10.99. I have pay 2024 and 2025 renewal. So not flat but small increase once, then hold.
Better than bait but not perfect. I put in middle category.
