Looking for cheapest ASN-friendly VPS that won't laugh at my budget

So I'm gonna be real with you, my budget is $5/year and I need an ASN-friendly VPS. Yeah I know. I can already hear the laughter.

But here's the thing: I got my ASN last month (super stoked about that ) and I just wanna announce a tiny /48 over BGP. Don't need much. 128MB RAM? 5GB disk? I'll take a potato if it has a serial console.

Tried OVHcloud already. They said "minimum commitment €50/mo" lol. Tried Contabo, their "budget" tier is €3/mo which is like... 7x my budget. Math is hard but not that hard.

Anyone actually doing this? Or am I begging for magic beans here

Your ASN registration data is personal data under GDPR. These providers will leak it in WHOIS, in tickets, in plaintext emails. No Article 32 technical measures. No breach notification procedure.

You want cheap? Fine. But "cheap" and "legally compliant BGP session" are mutually exclusive categories in the EU regulatory framework. The NIS2 directive will make this worse, not better.

2. Sign up at cloud.oracle.com. Use a real card—prepaid gets flagged. Expect verification delay of 2-3 days.

3. Launch an ARM instance: 4 OCPU, 24GB RAM, free forever. Or x86 if you prefer, same tier.

4. Request service limit increase for BGP. File support ticket → Networking → "Need BGP session for BYOIP." Attach your ARIN/RIPE LOA.

5. Pro tip: they only announce from specific regions. Ashburn works. Phoenix works. Frankfurt sometimes flakes.

6. Heads up: you need to bring your own IP space. They don't lease. But you have an ASN already, so you likely have v6 alloc or can get a /24 v4 lease cheap elsewhere.

I've been running my ASN on their free tier for 18 months. Zero invoice. BGP sessions stable after initial provisioning hell.

You're talking 128MB like that's a spec. My test lab has 512GB and I'm running 200 VMs just to warm the room
