Following this thread closely. I have a Magento 2 store on Cloudways now (DigitalOcean backend) and Hostinger keeps emailing me about free migration. After reading here I think I will stay put. Magento is fragile enough without adding a mover who treats .htaccess as optional.
Looking for anyone who got the advertised 'free migration' to work smoothly
RackNerd moved my directadmin site last year. It was a simple PHP forum, no ecommerce. Took about 3 hours from ticket to "done." I had to fix SMTP passwords because they did not migrate mail account passwords, just recreated the accounts.
So "smooth" but not "zero touch." Same as everyone else is saying.
Denver here. InterServer has a datacenter in Secaucus and Los Angeles, nowhere near me, but their free migration was the closest to painless I have found. cPanel to cPanel, WordPress with 40 posts and a small WooCommerce store. They scheduled it overnight my time, 2 hours downtime, everything worked including SSL auto-renew.
Maybe because they are smaller and do it manually instead of with a script.
This thread drifted from "success stories" to "survivable stories" in six replies. I am noting this for my own future reference.
Has anyone actually had a migration that required zero manual fixes afterward? Not "worked after I edited a config file" but actually zero?

I have seen one. Static HTML, no CMS, no database, no mail, no cron, no SSL because Cloudflare handled it. The migration was literally rsync and update A record. If that counts as "free migration working smoothly" then the bar is on the floor.
The real answer to petra's original question is probably "no" for any definition of migration that includes a working application stack.

I think you are right. I am going to reframe the case study around "what level of complexity makes free migration break" instead of hunting for unicorns. Thank you all, especially bravomartha for the controlled test and dudegoat for the reseller perspective.
If anyone has a genuine zero-touch story with a non-static site, I will leave the thread open another week. Otherwise I have enough to write.
