Looking for advice: colo vs. cloud for a side project

Want to host a game server from my closet. Have a Supermicro box, 64GB RAM, decent GPU. Power here is $0.14/kWh. ISP is some regional fiber reseller, no static IP without business tier.

• Option A: Edge this myself, DDNS, pray the ISP doesn't notice server traffic.
• Option B: Colo at a local facility, ~$80/mo for 2U, 1A, 100Mbit.
• Option C: Just use Cloudflare and origin to some cheap VPS.

But cache hit ratio on game state is garbage, so the CDN doesn't help much. Origin still gets hammered. Edge compute for matchmaking maybe?

What am I missing on power math? The colo guys quoted me "1A at 120V" and I don't know if my PSU will pull more.

Electricity costs will eat you alive at 014 per kwh... I run optimization on old s19s and even with 007 rates its tight... your supermicro probably pulls 150w idle 300w load... thats 220kwh monthly... 30 bucks just in power... plus cooling... plus the noise... colo starts looking cheap when you factor the optimization of not hearing fans at 3am...

I have make this choice since 2 days lol. I try the closet first with my old Dell, but it is possible to do that? Nein, the ISP have cut me after 2 weeks. Too much upload traffic they say. Now I am in colo with RackNerd in Amsterdam and it is better. The power is include, no noise, and my ping is stable. The fire story below please. 😅

Yes the Business tier contract is the critical Document here... most Residential service agreements forbid ServerHosting explicitly... the Colocation facility will give you the IPAddressBlock and the Power usage calculation... your Power supply unit rating is not your actual Draw... measure with a KillAWattMeter for true Wattage... the 1A at 120V gives you 120Watts continuous... if your System peaks higher you face Circuit breaker trips... very embarrassing during a Tournament... no do not risk this...

What happens if the ISP catches you? Do they just throttle or actually cut service? Im on a student plan with HostHatch fiber and I wanted to try hosting a small minecraft server for my friends!
