Want to host a game server from my closet. Have a Supermicro box, 64GB RAM, decent GPU. Power here is $0.14/kWh. ISP is some regional fiber reseller, no static IP without business tier.
- Option A: Edge this myself, DDNS, pray the ISP doesn't notice server traffic.
- Option B: Colo at a local facility, ~$80/mo for 2U, 1A, 100Mbit.
- Option C: Just use Cloudflare and origin to some cheap VPS.
But cache hit ratio on game state is garbage, so the CDN doesn't help much. Origin still gets hammered. Edge compute for matchmaking maybe?
What am I missing on power math? The colo guys quoted me "1A at 120V" and I don't know if my PSU will pull more.
