I test again with POM plate, box white, NO lube. Still popcorn. I give up. Maybe rain is impossible.

Has anyone tried a completely hollow case with a suspended plate? Like, the plate only touches at four points, rest is empty space below? I did this with a 3D printed test rig and got more "boing" than "click" but the sustain was longer. Not rain yet but closer to... metal thunder? I can share the STL if anyone wants to iterate.

Habit from the rack. If I'm speccing a full station—monitor, speakers, the box itself—I want the number. 73W was the whole desk at load, not just the keyboard. Should have been clearer. The keyboard itself is like 0.3W, who cares.

That's interesting. The suspended plate is basically what a tin roof IS—sheet metal with nothing behind it but rafters. Maybe the distance to the back wall matters? Too close and you get cavity resonance, too far and it's dead.

I compiled a kernel while reading this thread and I'm not sure which took longer.

Real talk: has anyone measured the spectral decay? Not "sounds like" but actual FFT? I ran a quick analysis on my Box Jade recording and the energy drops off in about 80ms. Rain on metal is more like 200-400ms with a noisy tail. We're not even in the same room as the same room, acoustically speaking.

Need longer spring, thinner plate, more radiating surface. Maybe a full-size board would help? More metal to ring.

YES! This is what I think! My friend, we think same! I make test with big plate, very thin alu, 1.0mm, and long spring from AliExpress, 20mm. The sound is more... tiiiiiiing, not tink. More long. I record tonight and post link. Maybe finally rain?

Following this thread because I want the opposite—my rain-sounding keyboard keeps waking my partner. Need to go the other direction, toward silent but not mushy. Will read backwards for tips, sorry for the interruption.
