A host that doesn't pretend to be in a country it's not

Back when I started in this business, twenty years ago, you knew where your packets landed because the datacenter had a real address and real engineers inside it. Kids these days buy a "US" server from some fly-by-night operation and traceroute shows Amsterdam every single time. I've seen "Chicago" VPSes with 120ms to Chicago and 15ms to Frankfurt. Mark my words, this geographic fraud will only get worse as IPv4 prices climb and everyone stuffs users into the cheapest EU bunker they can find. I'm tired of it. Who's actually honest about location anymore? I need real US east coast, not "US" in name only.

Contabo and OVHcloud are the only ones I trust for actual geography. Just use their looking glasses and verify yourself. Skill issue if you don't traceroute before paying. 🐧

Lol Contabo says they are in St. Louis but my traceroute hits Nuremberg first. OVHcloud is better but still things are weird with their "Beauharnois" nodes. You get what you pay for I guess.

Sorry, total noob here 😅 how do u do a traceroute? Is it hard? I just want a server thats actually where it says. Dont want to get scammed

IMO, take it with a grain of salt, but Vultr has been straightforward with me about which of their "US" locations are truly local versus forwarded. YMMV though. I always check AS paths now.

I have use the Hetzner and is good server honest. They say the location is the Netherlands and is the Netherlands ¿why not¡ The Contabo I have not try, how much cost for small plan? I am tired of the lying hosts also, is very frustrate.
