2.5Gbps unmetered under $50 that isn't a scam

Been through three "budget" providers this quarter. All of them had that classic trick: 2.5Gbps port, but 20TB cap or CPU throttling after sustained load. I need actual unmetered for a video ingestion node. 128GB RAM minimum, but honestly I'd take 64GB if the pipe is real.

Current candidates:

  • Contabo - €45, "unmetered" but I think their ToS has something about fair use
  • Hetzner - €38, reviews mention hard caps after 30TB
  • OVHcloud - €52, over budget but maybe negotiable

Anyone with six months+ on a sub-$50 true unmetered 2.5G port? Not "unmetered*". No asterisks.

Wesh HeadRich, le server حلو but incha'allah the uptime is real~

Contabo I tried, their "unmetered" = 50TB then slow-slow to 100Mbps... la arnaque, wallah. OVHcloud better, mais le prix is fixed, no negotiation I found.

Incha'allah you find something clean

• Contabo's Terms of Service has something about how they define "unmetered" as no artificial bandwidth ceiling, though from memory they still rate limit downstream to 2.5Gbps.
• I think it is in their ToS somewhere that they can throttle you after sustained utilization exceeding 95% of port capacity for more than 72 hours.
• OVHcloud does not list a hard cap, but their Acceptable Use Policy references "excessive utilization" without quantification.

I have operated a 2.5Gbps unmetered instance on KnownHost for eight months. No throttling detected. $49/month. Initial latency: 0.8ms. Sustained throughput averages 1.9Gbps.

The bandwidth discussion is secondary.

For what it's worth, I have seen three providers in this price bracket listed on major DNS blocklists within six months of launch. If you are doing video ingestion, your outbound delivery—SPF/DKIM/DMARC compliance, IP reputation, whether the ASN is on Spamhaus—matters more than raw throughput.

Contabo's /24 is currently clean. Hetzner's parent ASN had a listing in March 2026. OVHcloud is too new to evaluate properly.

Correcting a misconception: "unmetered" does not mean "unmonitored." Providers will terminate for abuse reports regardless of transfer volume.

@rustyrack_grag thank you thank you for the KnownHost info lah~ can you share the latency logs also? Wkwkwk

I am using Hetzner now, can reach 2.3Gbps but after 25TB they make slow-slow to 500Mbps... very sakit hati lah. Their support bilang "unmetered port, not unmetered transit" - tipu-tipu

Thinking to pindah to KnownHost or maybe try RackNerd. Anyone have pengalaman with RackNerd? Thank you

wrap it, ship it, pray it
