43 days but I keep coming back to this thread. Reykjavik_doc did you ever finish that power draw sentence? Curious what your monthly bill looks like at $0.09/kWh with those numbers.

Also @minh1987 — if you're dealing with outages, have you looked at used UPS units from the same surplus channels? University dumps are full of them.

Been 46 days so maybe you already fixed this, but reykjavik_doc your power math got cut off at "$0.09/kWh so ~$". Curious what the monthly bill actually works out to.

Also @minh1987 good question on the UPS. I've got a similar era box and the NUT shutdown scripts were more annoying to set up than the server itself.

Have you tried restarting it?

180W idle is already known but you trailed off with the cost calc. Also curious if you've stuck with the original fans or gone Noctua. My R720 sounds like a jet at POST and I can't decide if it's worth the swap.

Ah yeah, dropped that number. ~$14/month for power. Less than Vultr's 4GB VPS (https://www.vultr.com/pricing/) and I get the whole box.

Thread's been quiet a while but still running this thing 24/7. DIMM replacement was $12 shipped, took five minutes.

You cut off the monthly cost there and tamuma noticed too. Curious what the actual bill works out to since I'm eyeing a similar R720 on OVHcloud's refurb page. Also how's the noise situation. My closet gets warm enough already.

The post cuts off mid-sentence at ~$ and the thread went quiet. Curious because I'm eyeing a similar surplus deal but my rate is closer to $0.22/kWh. That idle draw might sting.

Did you land on a fix for this or just accept the missing wattage

Also reykjavik_doc if you are still around, what did you end up doing for disks. 8 bays is a lot of spinning rust to keep fed

You cut off the math there. Curious how it compares to cloud now that OVHcloud and InterServer have those cheap storage tiers. Also did you swap the fans for quieter ones or just tolerate the jet engine. My R720 is in the garage and I can still hear it through the wall.

My Vultr VPS had two outages last month, no control at all -- https://status.vultr.com. Thinking to buy old server like reykjavik_doc sir but power problem scares me
