Just watched my provider's status page lie in real time

102 days but this still gets me.

Budget providers cheap out on the status page because it's not "customer facing" until it is.

That is exactly it. They think it is just marketing until someone is actually down and looking.

I had the same thing with Hetzner last year — https://status.hetzner.com. Status page green, my monitor red. I opened a ticket and they literally updated the status page ten minutes *after* acknowledging my ticket. So the process was: me complain, them admit, then they tell everyone else.

Not exactly transparency.

Did anyone ever find a provider that updates before you have to ask

I moved from RackNerd to CloudCone after the same thing. Status page was a static HTML file on the same CDN as their marketing site, so when the CDN hiccuped, both went down together. Beautiful.

Now I just run a third-party monitor with its own alerting — I use https://uptimerobot.com for that. Treat every provider status page as decoration unless they publish how it's hosted.

This is the part that gets me. It's not even hard to do right.

RackNerd pulled the same thing on me last year. Status page stayed green for six hours while my monitoring was going red from three continents. When I finally got through to support they said "oh, we update that manually."

Manually. In 2024.

Anyway. 173 days late but if anyone finds this thread later — OVHcloud's been honest so far. Their status page goes yellow before my own alerts even fire. Small thing but I notice.

Cara, anyone ever got a real explanation from RackNerd about this

I had da same thing with Time4VPS last year, status page stayed green for six hours while my monitoring was going crazy — https://www.time4vps.com

Never got a straight answer, just a credit for one month and a generic "we're investigating"

Makes you wonder if some of these status pages are even hooked up to the same infrastructure

I used to work at a place that ran their status page on the same infra as the product, so when the product died the status page died too

The irony was not lost on anyone except management

Yes, 12ms. It's called not sharing your status infra with the thing you're monitoring.

12ms updates? On a dedicated box for a status page?
Most people stick it on the same cluster, then wonder why the status page goes down with the service. The whole point is separation. Anyway this thread is a year old now.
