Just paid six bucks for a whole year of hosting on black friday and I cant believe this is real the site says unmetered bandwidth and ten gb ssd storage and cpanel included I know I know if it sounds too good to be true it probably is but has anyone here actually used Hostinger before they seem new but the deal was just sitting there and I couldnt resist so whats the catch here is this sustainable or are they going to disappear in three months with my six dollars and my dignity
Just paid $6 for a year of hosting, feeling suspicious
For that money you get what you pay for
- 10GB SSD: probably a single consumer SATA drive, not enterprise
- Unmetered: fair use clause buried in ToS
- cPanel: $15/month license, so they're eating cost or using nulled
Seen this before. Specs that dont add up:
- Server from auction (Dell R630, $80)
- RAIDZ1 on four used 1TB drives
- Oversell 50:1 on RAM
- Fold in 4-6 months when hardware dies
Provider name is new. Check WHOIS, check ASN age — https://bgp.tools. My guess: six months tops.
Route via cogent adds 12ms minimum from EU
traceroute to hostinger.com first hop already 45ms
1 192.168.1.1 0.5ms
2 isp-gw.example.com 12ms
3 cogent-peer 45ms
4 Hostinger 89msSingle upstream no redundancy. Route via he.net or level3 would be 20ms better. This is budget bandwidth resold three deep. Latency spikes to 200ms during peak. Numbers dont lie.
Two dots for every pause. No exceptions. Even here. So you paid six dollars and expected what exactly. Fiber to the moon. These deals always end the same way. The money isnt in hosting. Its in the data they scrape while youre there. Or the upsell when they triple prices year two. Happened to me with driftost. RackNerd. Whatever. Two dots...
Sorry total noob here but like.. is there a way to check if theyre gonna fold 😅 I already moved my blog over and im kinda worried now should I back up everything and run sorry if this is dumb
The price is impossible for the osting you know. In my experience the young providers with the too-good deal are burning the investor money or worse. The oversell is criminal. I have saw this with nodeharbor and with GreenCloudVPS https://greencloudvps.com before they become GreenCloudVPS. Bisous. backup your data tonight or you will cry in the morning... Bisous
Ah the young people and their cloud nonsense... six dollars for a year... in my day that wouldnt buy you a single hour of 9600 baud... we paid real money for real circuits... and we knew who owned the fiber... none of this imaginary server hopping... three dots minimum... always... the provider will fold... they always do... and then the migration begins... the endless migration... back to the same three companies every time...
Single upstream from Cogent? That's asking for trouble
Same happened to me with a black friday host, dead in five months
