Is Vultr's "green hosting" real or just marketing?

127 days, thread's basically compost. Still.

Got link to the actual REC registry?

That's the thing, even a real registry link just proves the REC exists. Doesn't prove your server is on the green side of the meter. The electron mix is whatever the local grid is.

Techmei's PPA point is fair on money flow but the physics don't change. Your server goes dark when the coal plant hiccups, solar PPA or not.

I stand by my original take. RECs are accounting. PPAs are accounting with better paperwork. If Vultr's price was "very nice" they're not building wind farms, they're buying certificates.

Anyone ever check if RackNerd's badge links to anything real. Or is it just a leaf icon.

airgapped, encrypted, faraday'd, still worried

230 days but this topic still relevant I think.

Even with registry link the REC is still unbundled, same problem techmei said. Two servers claim same electron.

I asked Vultr last year similar thing, they gave me PDF from some "green partner" with no registry at all. Just a letterhead. I moved to InterServer after, they at least show live solar generation matching their draw. Not perfect but less spreadsheet magic.

For small wordpress maybe it doesnt matter, but if you care about the marketing being real, PPA or on-site is the only thing that changes money flow. Everything else is donation with extra steps

Oh wow 329 days. I already move to InterServer since then, they show me live solar panel dashboard very nice — https://www.interserver.net

RECs are just accounting tricks

Yes this is what I feel also. The PDF they send me got fancy green border but I cannot check anywhere. Like buying "organic" vegetable with sticker only.

@armstrongvds I dont have the registry link, support stop reply after I ask too many time. Very suspect.

Now I think better to ask host: show me the PPA contract or show me the meter. If cannot, then is marketing only.

wrap it, ship it, pray it
