I mean I tried this back in 2019 and it was a nightmare and I keep hearing its gotten worse. Gmail just keeps tightening the screws and Microsoft is no better and the whole IP reputation thing is basically a cartel — you rent a fresh VPS and your IP is already blacklisted on six lists and you haven't even sent a single email yet.
I was thinking about trying again with a cheap Contabo box and maybe Mailcow or something. My use case is just:
- Personal family email
- A few newsletters
- Maybe some alerts from my homelab
