20 years watching this debate. The real answer is forum software sucks. No thread versioning, no price history, no "significant update" flag. So we argue about necro instead of building better tools.
Ok so I looked at hetzner current and my 2gb is 4.51 eur which is like 3.80 gbp. Old thread said 4 usd for 2gb. Not insane diff but the plan names changed and I wouldve been confused without the old thread context. So necro saved me from wrong thread
From Bangalore perspective: Hetzner Singapore latency is 78ms vs Mumbai at 145ms. Old threads had traceroutes to both. Necro preserves network topology context, not just pricing. Kill necro and you lose the map.

I run a small board for local devs. We solved this with auto-lock after 12 months unless OP has "price tracking" tag. Best compromise I've found. Requires discipline though.

Tag system needs mods to ENFORCE. Most boards are volunteer modded, tags slip, arguments happen anyway. Theory vs practice again
Speaking of practice: just ran mtr to hetzner.com from Wrocław. 31ms via Frankfurt, stable. Old 2019 thread had 34ms. Network improved, prices shifted to ARM, context preserved by necro. Objectively useful.
Hana5 from Tokyo: Hetzner Singapore is my closest DC. Current GPU pricing is criminal compared to 2019 but thats global market, not Hetzner. Old threads show the slope. Without necro you just get "why so expensive" new threads every month.
