Is '99.9% uptime' just a suggestion?

I track the Contabo 3 nines for 8 month. Server good? No. Is 97.2%. ¿Why not¡ I pay for 99.9% and is lie. I use the UptimeRobot (https://uptimerobot.com), the Pingdom, all say same. The Contabo say "network issue outside our control" but is always. How much cost the honest host? I think is impossible find.

My server good when work, but is down too much. I want refund but the support say "read TOS". ¿What TOS say about 97.2%¡ Nothing good.

Someone have host with real 99.9%? Or is all suggestion?

¿Brother, 97.2% is very bad¡ I have the Vultr and is very 96.8% jaja. Prices only go up and uptime go down. The OVHcloud give me 98.1% last year, is very better but not good ¿why not¿

I think all "99.9%" is marketing lie brother!

If (uptime < 99.9) {
Return "technical debt";
}

I bash together a cron job to log every 60s. Output:

2026-07: 97.1%
2026-06: 96.9%
2026-05: 97.4%

Idempotent? No. The InterServer is cron lifestyle but their API has race conditions. I idempotent my retry logic, they do not idempotent their infrastructure.

Technical debt: my marriage.

Contabo vs Vultr vs OVHcloud (my 90-day track)

provider    ping    loss    uptime
Contabo   45ms    3.2%    97.2%
Vultr    62ms    4.1%    96.8%
OVHcloud   38ms    1.8%    98.1%
Hetzner  29ms    0.04%   99.97%

Decent disk IO, meh network on all three. Hetzner not in thread but worth note. YABS run 2026-07-30, AES-NI enabled, NVMe gen3.

fio, iperf, geekbench. results or gtfo.

99.97%? Someone's lying.

Prices only go up. /24 will cost you a kidney. IPv4 market at $55 per IP and you're getting five nines on a $6 plan? Sure.

I've tracked twelve providers since 2022.

  • Best real number: 99.3%
  • Average: 98.4%

The SLA is not the product.

/24 for sale. No lowballs.

The internet box was down last Tuesday and I called the IT support, the Contabo, not my nephew. They said "network issue outside our control" also. I don't know what 97.2% means but my website was slow for 3 days. The Cloudflare I pay extra, is that RAM or storage? My nephew says it's "cache." I think I need new nephew.
