Hot take from someone who's been self-hosting since 2014: IP KVM is more important than redundant power for most homelab and small colo setups. Here's why pay for redundant PSU when you can self-host a PiKVM and never need remote hands? I run docker compose stacks on three nodes with reverse proxies via Traefik, and the one time my colo box locked up, remote hands wanted $800 to press a power button. Eighty. Zero. Zero. Redundant power doesn't help when the OS hangs. A $35 PiKVM + $5/month for a management VLAN does. For that $800 I could buy 22 PiKVMs. My stack: Proxmox on the host, docker compose for services, nginx reverse proxy for external access, and PiKVM for the physical layer. Self-host the whole stack, why pay for remote hands when you can self-host hands?
