I2P on VPS: am I the only one?

So I fire up I2P on this ancient Contabo VPS I got for like tree fiddy and suddenly I'm in... a community? Of like twelve people? Running routers on hosts with 128MB RAM and dreams?

Just use Linux btw. Skill issue if you can't get it tunneling through your provider's abuse flag

Anyone else doing this or did I hallucinate the entire darknet

oops: 0000 [#1] SMP

I've had I2P running on a OVHcloud box since March, 99.97% uptime on the router itself. The host node is another story; their status page might as well be a static PNG for all the accuracy it provides.

Alert fatigue is real. I stopped paging myself for "participating tunnel count < 3" after two weeks.

436 days. reboot is surrender.

The I2P transport layer is genuinely interesting from a networking perspective. NTCP2 over TCP/443 for obfuscation, SSU2 for UDP—both with noise protocols for handshake obfuscation. The floodfill routers function similarly to DHT bootstrap nodes, but with garlic routing for store-and-forward.

What's less discussed: the bandwidth commitment. A participating router wants 128KB/s minimum for decent integration. At Vultr's transit pricing for that commit, you're looking at meaningful cost for a "free" anonymity network.

iBGP, eBGP, don't care, just peer

My friend I am running I2P on Hetzner since 2024. Very nice router performance. I tink we are more than twelve people my friend.

But you must to check your tunnel build success rate. Mine was terrible until I fix clock skew. Now going very fast.

Also my friend I have question: you are on Contabo https://contabo.com/en/vps/ Fremont location? I am too. Maybe same rack. Wkwkwk I mean hahaha!

This is crazy I check my OVHcloud panel and it is same physical node too!!! That Fremont cage with serial number ending in 7B2???

Prague1983 my friend we are all neighbors and not even know it!!! I2P-ception!!! Going to share bandwidth with strangers on same host run anonymity network hide from same host admin

This is why self-host never trust cloud

chill infrastructure for chill people 🦫
