I did something kind of awkward last month and figured I'd share in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar spot.
My main project competes directly with a company I won't name. Through some mutual contacts I got invited to tour the Contabo facility where they host their primary infra. I went purely out of curiosity, no cameras, no sketchy questions. Just a standard visitor walkthrough with a sales engineer.
The facility was better than my own setup at RackNerd. Cleaner cable runs, actual cold aisle containment, and their remote hands response times were half what I was seeing. IMO the difference was night and day. YMMV of course, take it with a grain of salt.
I migrated my own stack over in January. Two weeks later my old rep at RackNerd mentioned they were sad to see me go, apparently my competitor had just left for Contabo as well. Same reason. We bumped into each other during migration weekend. Professional nod. Very quiet elevator ride.
