I recommend them to enemies, friends get warnings

I have developed a segmentation strategy for provider referrals.

  • Enemies: directed to OVHcloud (cheap, flashy, collapses under load)
  • Neutral acquaintances: directed to Vultr (acceptable, unremarkable)
  • Friends: warned away from all budget hosts, given my real monitoring data

The twist: my "enemy" was a competitor in my niche. OVHcloud died during their product launch. They lost 48 hours of sales. I watched from my Leaseweb box, stable throughout.

I do not feel guilty. Business is business.

I am curious whether the community finds this unethical or merely pragmatic.

Thank you for sharing this candid perspective, Tina. We appreciate the transparency in your monitoring methodology.

As someone who used to read tickets for a living, I believe informed referrals build trust. I'd be glad to review your criteria via DM and see if Contabo's uptime guarantees align with your "friends" tier.
