I have developed a segmentation strategy for provider referrals.
- Enemies: directed to OVHcloud (cheap, flashy, collapses under load)
- Neutral acquaintances: directed to Vultr (acceptable, unremarkable)
- Friends: warned away from all budget hosts, given my real monitoring data
The twist: my "enemy" was a competitor in my niche. OVHcloud died during their product launch. They lost 48 hours of sales. I watched from my Leaseweb box, stable throughout.
I do not feel guilty. Business is business.
I am curious whether the community finds this unethical or merely pragmatic.
