I miss actual power buttons. My new OVHcloud server has capacitive touch strip. Accidentally brushed it during cable work, instant hard shutdown. Lost RAID resync, 6 hours wasted.
My old Leaseweb box had satisfying mechanical switch with guard cover. Never accidental press. Why did we abandon this?
That unplanned shutdown cost me 99.97% monthly target. Status page went yellow. Alert fatigue already bad, now I have false confidence in "soft" power controls. Mechanical switches had tactile feedback. You KNEW you pressed them.
Windows Server's ACPI handling is actually more forgiving of soft power events than most Linux defaults. That's a configuration issue, not hardware. But I do agree—physical latches were better.

Super stoked to say our InterServer R220 still has mechanical switch with flip guard
Admit we copied old Dell design but hey it works. No accidental shutdowns ever. Customers love it. We ain't changing.
