I miss physical media

No edge to pop here. Just origin sadness.

I miss liner notes. I miss DVD extras that took actual effort. Director commentaries where someone cared. Now everything streams from origin and if it misses, you wait, you buffer, you forget what you wanted.

I still have my Blockbuster card in my wallet. It's 12 now. The latency to nostalgia. No cache hit, just miss after miss.

Anyone else?

Prices only go up. Physical media prices only go up too. /24 will cost you a kidney, but a Criterion disc costs you a lung.

I sold my DVD collection 2019. Regret it weekly. Streaming licenses expire. Your "purchase" is a rental with worse terms.

I feel you. Have you tried thrift stores? The browsing experience is closest to old video stores. No algorithm, no edge, just shelves and luck.

I feel you on the extras too.

— "Making of" used to mean something. Now it's 90 seconds of B-roll and a poster.

Still got my tower records receipt from '99. Liner notes were the real product.
