Graphed three months of supposed unmetered 1Gbps on a Contabo dedi. Here's what "unmetered" looks like:
- Days 1-7 after fresh provision: 940mbit sustained no issues
- Day 8-14: drops to 600mbit, support says "network maintenance"
- Day 15+: hard cap at 400mbit, shape resets at billing cycle
- Pattern identical across three billing cycles
iperf3 to my own colo box shows 950mbit both ways. Issue is not transit. Issue is Contabo lying.
Poll: what do you actually do about this
- Switch providers immediately
- Open tickets until they fix or refund
- Work around it (multiple vms, rotate ips, etc)
- Just accept it, price is low anyway
- Other
My vote: opened six tickets, got six copypaste responses. Currently rotating exit nodes like its 2012. Waste of my time.

So this is normal for budget provider. You want unmetered you pay for unmetered, why you expect else? "Fair use" is in terms itself, you sign it. I have VPS at Vultr, same story, what you gonna do, move to dedicated? Then you pay for power draw too, the server is not free.
My advice: read terms, accept reality, or pay more.

Actually this is Bandwidth contouring not Throttling. The Provider shapes your Traffic profile to fit their Oversubscription model. Common with Budget dedicated servers. You agreed to this in the Acceptable use policy oder?
Actually "unmetered" means Unmeasured not unlimited. Marketing language versus Technical reality. Oder?

Call it what you want, my contract says 1Gbps unmetered. Not "1Gbps shaped to 400mbit after you actually use it." I ran iperf3 to my colo box in Chicago, 950mbit both ways on day 1. Same test, same endpoints, 400mbit day 15. That's not contouring, that's a hard cap with a calendar trigger.

I did read terms. "Unmetered" appears four times, "fair use" appears zero times in my contract. Contabo's AUP is a separate page that from memory says something about unlimited traffic and I don't recall it listing any numeric limits. Where exactly did I sign up for 400mbit?
