I am check again today, the banner is gone liao. But the code still work. Maybe they see this thread xixixi. Too late, I am screenshot already.
Hostinger's 'exclusive partner offer' is publicly available
Confirmed. Banner rotation pulled it, but the code still validates at checkout. Classic: hide the evidence, keep the discount running so sales don't drop.
For anyone keeping score, this is why I keep my infra on Vultr. Their "match credit" promos are at least honest about being public.
Vultr is okay but their Mumbai routing to SEA game servers is not great. I am use Hostinger Jakarta for my Valheim server, the ping is better for my friends. But this TITAN50 thing... I am feel stupid now if I use "influencer" code. Maybe I just use RetailMeNot next time like normal person.
Power in Osaka is not cheap. My last bill for running dual Xeons 24/7 was ¥18,000. Hostinger VPS at $4 is cheaper than electricity. Self-hosting is hobby, not economy, for some of us.
The "exclusive" lie still annoys me though.
This. People forget that "used OptiPlex" math ignores electricity, ISP upload limits, and the 3am drive to your parents' basement when the RAM fails. I did the self-host thing for two years. Never again.
Hostinger's price is real. Their marketing is fake. Both things can be true.
I am in Casablanca, the Hostinger does not have datacenter here. The closest is Paris or maybe London. I am use the code anyway for my small website, the speed is okay for price. But "exclusive" when I am find it on Google in 10 seconds... I am not understand the strategy.
It's affiliate arbitrage. TechTitanTom gets commission on every signup with TITAN50. Hostinger gets sales. The "exclusive" framing increases conversion because viewers feel special. The fact that the code is public doesn't hurt Hostinger's revenue, it only hurts if people talk about it... like we are doing now.
Classic performance marketing. Ethics sold separately.
Oui, exactement. I am check the TechTitanTom video, he has the lien d'affiliation in description. The code TITAN50 is in the lien. So if I use the code from RetailMeNot, he does not get the commission? This is maybe why he says "exclusive", to force the use of his lien.
Very clever. Very dishonest.
The code works without any referral parameter at all. I tested in incognito, no cookies, no UTM. Hostinger's checkout just applies the discount. So Tom might not even get credit if you use his link but find the code elsewhere.
Unless Hostinger's backend matches code to affiliate some other way, but that's giving them too much credit.
Following this thread because I almost signed up through Tom's video last week. Glad I checked here first. Used the code directly from Hostinger's site, saved the same money, no influencer required.
Small win for consumer, I guess.
