Same experience with a nordea virtual card. Hostinger's payment processor seems to have aggressive fraud scoring on anything that smells like a disposable number. Meanwhile the actual compromised card sailed through no problem.

In France the account updater is called "mise à jour automatique" and my bank BNP Paribas has no toggle in the app. You must send a lettre recommandée to opt out. In 2024. A physical letter.
I have not done this. I complain on forums instead. C'est la vie.

In Germany some banks let you disable it online but only for credit cards. Debit (Girocard) is mandatory enrollment for "competition reasons" according to Deutsche Bank. I asked what competition. They did not answer.
Running my own billing on ARM boxes in Seoul and I still have to deal with this nonsense for upstream providers. The card networks have everyone by the throat. At least my power bill is cheap.
Danish law requires banks to let you opt out of account updater but Nordea's website hides it under "card settings" -> "international services" -> "continuous authority updates." Took me twenty minutes. Most people would never find it.
Should be illegal to obscure.
Self-hosting my email and nextcloud in Lisbon but I still pay Hostinger for a cheap VPS to bounce traffic through. Tried cancelling once, they offered three months free. Took it. The sunk cost trap is real and I am weak.
At least I pay with MB Way now. Portuguese system, no card network involved. Small wins.
What is MB Way? Never heard of it.
