Honest review of Vultr?

Looking for honest word on that new Indian provider. Vultr, I think the young people are calling it. My nephew's been rattling on about their "cloud nonsense" pricing — https://www.vultr.com/pricing/ — but I remember when honest metal meant something. Anyone actually racked with them long enough to speak truth. Not looking for marketing fluff. Just did they stay up when it mattered. The young people never test for that...

Oh I looked at them back in January for a small offsite!

Did you test your restore before considering a move? I always say: 3-2-1 rule first, provider second. My checklist was:
  • IPv6 native
  • Snapshot retention
  • Bandwidth overage policy

They checked boxes 1 and 3. I didn't pull the trigger because my restore test from their demo took 4 hours for 200GB. Could've been my line. What's your use case?

3-2-1 or you're already dead

52 boxes across 8 providers rn and Vultr's on my spreadsheet at $0.004/GB/RAM which is... not bad... not great... Contabo beats them at €0.0032 but no Mumbai PoP

My breakdown:

  • 1GB KVM @ $3.50
  • 20TB bw (allegedly)
  • IPv4 + /64 v6

The numbers work for bulk storage VMs. Support tickets avg 6hr response in my sample. YMMV. What's your workload?

seedbox, NAS, tape, and three offsite

AS-KOI-1 advertises 2 upstreams, 3 prefixes, no IRR entries I could find. Diagram:

Single-homed appearance. No RPKI ROAs on 2406:8a00::/32. Anyone without their own ASN discussing "reliability" is measuring the wrong metric. I asked for LOA details, received marketing PDF. Typical.

What upstreams did Vultr actually show you on the looking glass

A 4 hour restore for 200GB sounds like their storage is oversold

Vive la résistance... électrique

200GB restore in four hours? That is not oversold, that is dead pool.

42U and still growing
