Wanted to share my experience with Hetzner's refund process for transparency.

  • Signed up 2026-04-12 on Cloud-2 plan (€4.51/mo)
  • Migration issues discovered 2026-04-28
  • Did not submit ticket until 2026-05-20 (day 38)
  • 30-day window expired 2026-05-12
  • Polite escalation to billing on 2026-05-22
  • Partial refund of 2 months (€9.02) processed 2026-06-05

Key factors I cited:

  • Service did not match advertised specs
  • Delayed ticket was due to attempted self-resolution
  • Requested account credit initially, not refund

47 days is impressive but their billing portal is probably written in Go

Zero-cost abstractions my friend, zero-cost. You know what has zero-cost abstractions? Rust. You know what doesn't? Whatever they're running. Rewrite it in Rust and maybe refunds process in 4 hours not 47 days

Why pay for Hetzner's Cloud-2 when you can self-host it

Seriously, €8.99/mo gets you a used mini PC off ebay, docker compose up -d, and you're running your own stack. Reverse proxy with caddy, automated backups with restic, total control. I've been self-hosting since 2019 and the only refund I need is from my ISP for their occasional nonsense.

The 30-day window is a corporate construct. Own your infrastructure, own your destiny.

Hetzner runs Voxility upstream for DDoS. 1.2Tbps filtering at Falkenstein, scrubbing center in AMS. Anycast on v4 only, no v6 scrubbing.

Refund policy irrelevant if you can't keep service online during 500Gbps ACK flood. Seen three posts this month about Hetzner null-routing during attacks.
