From shared hosting support to platform engineering

¿why not¿ share my path jaja. Started 2014 answering tickets for brother's "value-added redistribution" company (is very small). Now I build platforms at fictional place.

The jump is very scary brother. From "your email is working sir" to "here is my terraform module". Took 6 years.

¿who else has weird path¿ I want to hear. No shame brother. We all start somewhere!

So basically I'm doing like helpdesk stuff at my uni? And tbh imo this is like not where I wanna be? But I also have no idea how to jump to something else? Y'know?

I see people talking about kubernetes and I'm like ??? Is that a pokemon??? LOL

Anyway my plan is basically get some certs? Maybe AWS? Idk? Is that actually a good route? Help me out here??

Sorry if this is a dumb question. But how did you learn terraform? I'm a student with no budget for labs and everything costs money.

I found some free tier stuff at Vultr but I'm scared I'll break something and get billed.

Thanks everyone for sharing stories!

Before I was support in french company, now I am SRE at Hetzner!! It is possible to do that? Yes but very difficult!!

My secret: I have contribute to open source during night since 2 years. No sleep, much coffee, but recruiters see github profile lol. Mdr sometimes I still not believe it works.

Good luck to all students here, you can do it 😅
