Hey folks!! Super stoked right now. Just finished moving my last client off cPanel onto a clean Debian + docker setup on InterServer. Gonna be honest, I was paying that cPanel tax for like 4 years because "clients need easy" but turns out?? They just needed me to not break stuff
The migration was messy. I accidentally rm -rf'd a wordpress dir at 2am and had to restore from InterServer's snap. Fixed it fast tho, thats the game. Total savings: $45/month in license fees. Gonna redirect that into actual infra.
Anyone else shed this weight recently?? Tell me im not the only one who clung too long
I feel this in my bones. The server meu still has cPanel on one box, why?? Because wife. She needs webmail-ul, "is too complicated" she says. I tried roundcube, I tried snappymail, no. Maybe I migrate this year, maybe I pay tax forever.!
I did this in 2019 and I will never go back I remember the day exactly it was tuesday and I had eggs for breakfast and my cat Mr whiskers sat on the keyboard while I was exporting databases and the weather was rainy and I thought will this work and it did and I saved $35 a month which I spent on better backups and then in 2021 I had to migrate again because the provider changed terms and Mr whiskers is gone now but I still have the terminal open on that day in my screenshots folder and people always ask why I keep everything and this is why because freedom has a taste and it tastes like not paying for a panel I dont need when I can just use the command line and Apache or nginx I prefer nginx now but back then it was Apache and I still have both configs saved
Wey I feel u bro my jefe still pays cPanel tax on 8 servers at Hostinger, 8. I told him wey lets do hestiacp or cyberpanel but no bro, "clients need familiar" he says, and im like bro the clients dont even log in, only his wife uses webmail for her crochet shop? Double waste of money. I migrated my own stuff to docker-compose on a cheap CloudCone box, super clean bro, no regrets!
