Finally deleted my last cPanel shared hosting account

I deleted the last cPanel account today

No more shared hosting for I ever again

I have been self hosting since 2019 but kept one old client site on a cPanel plan for emergencies

I finally migrated it to a Hetzner VPS and closed the account

I am free

Just use SSH

Skill issue resolved after 7 years, impressive

The real question is how many times you will miss having Softaculous at 3am when a client needs WordPress deployed in ten minutes

The cPanel exit is less about control and more about email deliverability

For what it's worth, shared IP reputation on those hosts was catastrophic by 2023. SPF alignment impossible, no dedicated IP option under their "business" tier, RBL listings you could not escape because some neighbor sent phish from the same /24

Your own VPS means your own warm IP, your own rDNS, your own DMARC policy enforcement

Congrats on the migration

Back in 2009 I kept a cPanel account for a side project because it came free with a domain registration

They don't make them like that anymore

The interface was slower than my first Pentium 4 server but it had Fantastico and that felt like magic at the time

Now I run three KVM nodes and I barely remember what the cPanel file manager looked like

Good for you @Elena, the learning curve pays off

SPARCstation 20, still serving HTTP

Hey folks

Congrats on the milestone ELENA, and thanks everyone for the memories

Keeping this open for now but let's not turn it into a general shared hosting bash thread, we have plenty of those already 🙂

We see this transition often in our community. The skills you build managing your own stack tend to compound over time, even if the initial setup takes longer than a one-click install.

There is a genuine trade-off between velocity and control. You have chosen the path that suits your needs now.

Softaculous at 3am hits different though

Hetzner gives you dedicated IP and rDNS by default on their cloud servers?

phở at 3AM, deploy at 4
