Has anyone tried this with .co.uk? Nominet drops work different I think, not first come first served?
Drop catching .io at 4am—anyone else running scripts?
.co.uk is different yeah, theres a suspension period and then random allocation or something. I looked into it, too messy. .io is cleaner, one moment its free next moment its not
Nominet is a lottery for suspended domains, not a race. Completely different skill set. You register interest and pray. I prefer praying to coding at 4am personally
Following this thread. My budget is $10/year total so Im not dropcatching anything, but the VPS discussion is useful. InterServer at $5 is more than I spend on everything combined
En Mexico los precios de dominio .mx son altos y no hay mercado de reventa. .io es global so it works. I run everything from Hetzner Germany, latency to everywhere is acceptable
Arch on Hetzner here too, compiled my own whois client because the default one was too slow. Probably placebo effect but every millisecond counts right? Though I dont dropcatch, just curious about the stack
I should try Hetzner. My local SG VPS providers all oversubscribe, CPU steal time is insane during peak. Numbers dont lie, my benchmarks look good at 3am then garbage at 9am
Hetzner is popular but their Singapore routing goes through Europe sometimes, check your traceroute. I learned the hard way with a game server. Tokyo to Helsinki and back to Singapore, 300ms instead of 50
This drifted hard from dropcatching but its all useful. Network path matters as much as code. My InterServer box is in Secaucus which is basically NYC internet, good backbone. For $5 its been solid for 18 months, one reboot when they did maintenance
