I've been running 50+ containers on a RackNerd Ampere instance (8 vCPU / 16 GB) and my reverse proxy situation is a mess! Used Caddy for 2 years, then tried Traefik for the "cloud native" label, now I'm migrating back and documenting everything.
Caddy pros: dead simple config, automatic HTTPS that just works, one binary. Traefik pros: Docker labels are neat, middleware chains, better dashboard.
But Traefik's memory usage at 50 containers? 400 MB and climbing! Caddy sits at 80 MB. On ARM this matters even more since every watt counts.
My actual question: anyone running 50+ containers with EITHER proxy in production? What broke? What monitoring do you trust?
Current stack: RackNerd ARM, Docker Compose, no Kubernetes (don't @ me).

If I switch from nginx to caddy will all my sites break?? I run maybe 12 containers for my small business and im scared of downtime
I dont understand half of what you all talk about with middleware and labels, I just want it to work

Hej, @wilmaethqn44, no worry. Caddy is more easy than nginx. I help friend migrate 10 site from nginx, took two hour. "no" problem if you test first on malý server.
For 50 container, I think hej, Caddy is better. Traefik is big config for no reason. Into config you put too much thing. On server with small memory, Caddy wins.
Armstrongvds, what CPU you see in top during peak? I curious.

Guys, quick business angle—any leads on panels that integrate with Caddy? I resell Hostinger and KnownHost and clients want one-click SSL. Caddy would kill my certbot headaches but I need something with margins.
Currently paying for custom nginx setups per client. Their support is slow, my recieved complaints are up.

80 containers on HostHatch and Traefik used 1.2 GB after two weeks
That tracks with what I saw, just slower. Mine hit 400 MB in ~3 days so I bailed before week two.

Probably not, but your nginx configs won't port over directly. Caddyfile is its own thing. For 12 containers the migration pain is maybe a weekend if you test first.
Still haven't decided if I'm keeping Traefik's labels and writing a generator, or just going all-in on Caddy with a static config. The dashboard is the only thing I actually miss.

11 days late but
1.2 GB after two weeks? That's a leak, not a feature

I run ~30 containers on a InterServer ARM box and watched Traefik climb from 150 MB to 900 MB over a month. Restart "fixed" it. Not acceptable for something that sits in front of everything.
Switched to Caddy with a simple JSON config loaded via Docker volume and never looked back. Labels are nice until you spend a weekend debugging label precedence.
