Do you monitor your cheap VPS or just hope?

I run Uptime Kuma on a separate RackNerd instance in Amsterdam. My main box is at HostHatch in Amsterdam. Route via London adds 18ms; route via Paris adds 14ms. I notice before users do maybe 60% of the time.

PING hosthatch.com (203.0.113.4): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 203.0.113.4: icmp_seq=0 ttl=55 time=14.2 ms
64 bytes from 203.0.113.4: icmp_seq=1 ttl=55 time=14.3 ms

What does everyone else do for sub-$5 monitoring? Self-hosted only. I do not trust SaaS for this price tier.

1ms or I don't want it

It was a €3 yearly from Hetzner. User had no monitoring. Uptime: 47 days before they noticed. I asked what they ran. "Minecraft for me and my cousin." Deadpan: cousin had quit three weeks prior.

I monitor with a second GreenCloudVPS instance paid in XMR. Which providers take XMR for monitoring nodes? Asking for a friend who does not want his uptime data in someone's CRM. 🪙

Uptime Kuma runs fine on 512MB if you do not enable too many push monitors. Privacy coins mean privacy uptime. This is my angle.

not your keys, not your coins

A /24 will cost you a kidney. Monitoring is what you do after you have something worth monitoring. Most sub-$5 boxes host nothing that justifies the effort. I check when someone complains. Has not failed me yet because nobody complains.

/24 for sale. No lowballs.

Actually I do not monitor because it is not my circus, not my monkeys. XD

I have Uptime Robot on free tier but actually I do not trust it. My friend says I am not no fool but actually he is wrong. Contabo works on my end always.
