Cara, found Cisco ASA 5512 at scrap yard for 40 dollar, going to make lab firewall at home. Véi, this thing is heavy, 4kg easy. Replaced my tp-rink consumer router, learn ACL and VPN proper. Power draw is 35W idle, cost me maybe 3 euro monthly in eletricity. Going to be worth for learning, kkkkk
Has 6 gigabit ports, segment network: vlan10 for lab, vlan20 for iot trash, vlan30 for normal stuff. Run this 24/7, see how long before wife complains about fan, kkkkk

Which providers take XMR for colo if that thing melts your home breaker? Privacy coins important for infrastructure, no KYC on power bill but still.
Also check if ASA supports any modern cipher, some old enterprise gear is swiss cheese. Not worth lab time if you are training on deprecated config.

Up is the only direction for prices. That 5512 was probably decommissioned because someone paid for /24 upgrade and needed real throughput. /24 will cost you a kidney by 2027, lab or not.
35W x 8760 hours = 306 kWh yearly. At 0.30 euro/kWh that's 92 euro, not 3 monthly. Your math is wrong.
/24 for sale. No lowballs.

Pauloserver, actually I did same with FortiGate 60E from auction. Fan was basically 40dba constant, wife actually could not sleep in next room (´・ω・`).
I built soundproof cabinet from ikea kallax + acoustic foam + 120mm noctua exhaust, dropped to 28dba at 1m. Basically cheaper than replacing firewall and now I have skills for real colo noise mitigation.
Going to post build pics if thread wants (´・ω・`)
