Been shopping for a new VPS. Host wants 12 months prepaid. Prices only go up, so I get the impulse. But what if they ghost? Chargeback only works 180 days. Heard crypto payments make you "chargeback-proof" which hosts love. Thinking of offering USDC to lock in a /24 lease. /24 will cost you a kidney already, losing it to an exit scam hurts worse.

Anyone done this? Volatility aside, does "refund protection" actually protect the payer or just the host?

If you pay with crypto and they dont deliver, theres no way to get it back right? I always thought chargebacks were the only protection us small folks had

Can not reverse one, correct lah. But if host honest, they can refund also, same wallet. Wkwkwk

The "refund protection" terminology is misleading only. It protects the merchant itself from fraudulent chargebacks, not the payer.

In my experience, kindly request escrow service for large prepayments, or pay monthly itself.

If the provider is established in the EU, your right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority does not depend on your payment method. However. I checked the host you mentioned in another thread. Contabo? Their imprint page disappeared last week. Company register shows dissolution proceedings. Crypto payers are the most vulnerable in an insolvency—no creditor claim, no chargeback, no paper trail for the liquidator.
