Counter-Strike 2 server requirements—Source 2 changed everything

My old CS:GO dedicated server config worked fine for 6 years. 64 tick, 20 slots, 2 vCPU / 4 GB on a cheap OVHcloud VPS in my country. After CS2 update, server crashes on map load with "out of memory" or stutters so bad it's unplayable. Valve docs say nothing useful.

I checked

srcds_linux
process and it now spawns multiple
cs2
workers. Memory usage spikes to 6 GB on boot alone. Is this normal now? What are people actually running for a 20-slot CS2 server?

Also saw some threads about

sv_maxrate
being ignored in favor of new Source 2 cvars. Anyone have a working server.cfg?

This is wild! Source 2 really changed the game here.

I tested CS2 dedicated on an Ampere Altra from Vultr and it runs circles around my old x86 box. Insane value for the price!

My working specs for 20-slot:

  • 4 vCPU (ARM or x86, but ARM wins on perf-per-watt)
  • 8 GB RAM minimum, 12 GB recommended
  • NVMe storage—Source 2 assets are huge

The multi-worker thing is real. CS2 uses a job system now, not the old single-threaded model. Your 2 vCPU is definitely choking.

one small ping for man...
