Contabo Ryzen boxes keep dying on me

VPS nodes seem different animal

They are. Contabo VPS is oversubscribed E5 v3/v4 on Proxmox, boring and reliable enough for the price. The Ryzen dedis were them trying to look modern without the infrastructure to support it.

Different buying decision entirely. I wouldn't host a bank on either but VPS for static site? Fine. Ryzen "server" for production? Gambling.

So what's the consensus here for cheapest actual server-grade dedi with IPMI? Hetzner EX/AX lines? OVH Advance? Anything else in Europe under 50 EUR?

Hetzner auction if you don't need latest gen. EX42 with E5v4 around 30 EUR, full iKVM. AX42 with 3600 around 40 EUR, real board.

OVH Advance starts higher but you get included DDoS protection that actually works. Hetzner's is... basic.

For true budget with some gamble, Kimsufi KS-LE. Atom or old i3, no IPMI on the cheapest, but 5 EUR and rock solid for what it is. Know what you're buying.

In Argentina our options are basically "pay 200% import tax on everything" or use EU providers and cry about latency. I have Contabo VPS in their Sao Paulo location, works for my homelab backups. 150ms to Buenos Aires, acceptable.

The Ryzen dedis never made sense for me, shipping a bare metal to South America would be comedy. VPS or nothing here.

This thread saved me from a mistake. Was literally in checkout for Contabo 7950X. Going Hetzner AX102 instead. Thanks all.
