The cPanel angle is a red herring, I think. Contabo doesn't run cPanel on their managed VPS tier, they use a custom panel that nobody asked for. I've got one idling in a tab somewhere, the login page still has a placeholder logo from 2019.
Idk why I do this but I checked their status page archive once and the incident history is just "scheduled maintenance" repeated until you scroll far enough to hit a 404. No mention of any upgrade scripts, any forced configs, anything.
The 2G and 600s numbers feel pulled from a different host entirely. Maybe someone mixed up threads, maybe someone mixed up providers. Happens when every budget shop uses the same stock photos of server racks.
What actually tracks for Contabo is the silence. No alerts, no tickets auto-generated, just you noticing your own downtime and opening the chat to find someone copy-pasting from a flowchart. That's the managed experience there. Not scripts breaking your stack, but nobody watching it break in the first place.
Hetzner at least sends you a "we're looking into this" before they ghost. OVHcloud once woke me up with a 3am alert about planned maintenance scheduled for the following week. Wrong, but conscious.
RackNerd I have no data on. Their forum reps just post emoji reactions to complaints and dip.
If you're married to WHM, unmanaged plus a monitoring hook is the honest path. Paying Contabo extra for managed is just funding their ability to ignore you with extra steps.
