Contabo has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire OVHcloud for €340 million in cash and stock, the companies announced this morning. The deal is expected to close Q4 2025 pending regulatory approval.

Contabo CEO cited "operational synergies" and "expanded geographic footprint." OVHcloud operates 12 data centers across EU and APAC.

Hot take: this consolidation wave is accelerating. We have seen four major acquisitions in hosting since January. For what it's worth, my concern is IP reputation portability. OVHcloud maintains distinct ASN and netblock assignments. Customers with established sender scores face potential disruption if Contabo migrates infrastructure or renumbers. SPF and DKIM records will require updates. Warmup periods for new IPs average 2-4 weeks minimum.

Insane value in this deal for Contabo! OVHcloud's London facility runs Ampere Altra Max clusters that run circles around the old Xeon stuff they had in Frankfurt.

I did some napkin math: 128 cores per socket, 2.8 GHz sustained, DDR5-4800. The density per rack is wild. If they integrate properly this could be the best ARM footprint in European budget hosting.

What happens to existing OVHcloud ARM plans though? Those were already underpriced.

This transaction represents a significant value-added redistribution opportunity within the partner ecosystem. Leverage will be achieved through the combined synergy of both organizations' channel programs.

It is anticipated that the legacy OVHcloud wholesale infrastructure will be leveraged to enhance the synergy of Contabo's existing value-added redistribution platform. Partners are encouraged to await forthcoming communications regarding revised margin structures and co-marketing synergies that will be leveraged in due course.

Peering

BGP hijack imo. v4 table bloat. Transit ceo, tier-1 only if you pay for it.

Cfg migration = downtime. Fw rules stale. Rt propagation? V6 prefix renumbering pain.

Ask me how I know.

Contabo acquire OVHcloud. Server very slow after such deal usually. Network not stable when company merge.

I used to work in support at a host, not OVHcloud. Internal FAQ say "no layoff planned" but сетевой team already told to prepare documentation for handover. Management say "synergy" but mean cut cost.

FAQ also say customer price "under review." Not good sign. I post this anonymous but probably not anonymous enough.
