I posted here six months ago praising GreenCloudVPS for a personal project. My employer needed quick test environment, I suggested same provider. Zero-cost abstractions in my thinking, I guess. Became production without review. Host had outage, data loss, blame landed on me. Fired last week.

Now legal says I may be liable for recommending consumer-grade infrastructure. No indemnification in my contract. This seems insane. Can they actually pursue this? I did not sign anything about vendor selection. Memory safety in my code did not help memory safety of my employment.

Anyone dealt with similar? Should I get lawyer before they finish "investigation"?

Bro this is messed up. Employer use your Personal recommendation for Production? Than blame you? They not have IT team for evaluate? I think they search for scapegoat. get lawyer bro, dont wait for Investigation finish. since you not sign vendor policy, hard to prove fault. But lawyer Important.

52 boxes here, never let employer know my providers 😂. But seriously:

  • Lawyer now
  • Save all emails
  • Check if they had change control process (they didnt)

$/GB/RAM on legal defense gonna hurt worse than any VPS. Your personal rec ≠ enterprise procurement. They skipped steps.

Oh no the internet box decision backfired. My nephew set this up for me once with something from CloudCone I think. IT Support Vendor said never use consumer stuff for business. But firing YOU instead of whoever APPROVED it? That is wrong. Did they confuse RAM and storage too?

Your situation similar. No process. No approval chain. They want human blame instead of system fix. Document everything. Do not sign anything they send.
